Let's Ask - Question #1

Today, I'm introducing my brand new feature that will be posted every Thursday on my blog. It's called, Let's ask. Lately, I've had so many unanswered questions about getting published and marketing children's books I thought why not just ask the experts one question per week and then share their knowledge of the business with us.  *Experts = most likely a friend/acquaintance with experience writing children's books or publishing them.

For my very first question I asked Kris Quinn Christopherson (see below for her bio info)

Here's my question to Kris:
Why is it important to build your platform as a new author/illustrator? Can you tell us about the World of Ink Tour that you're involved with?

Kris's response:
A very important question --- I will do my best to give an answer that fits into the ‘real world’ of writing/illustrating… from my little corner of the world!!

It is so important because there are many, many excellent stories, illustrations, books, novels, picture books, and poems out there and although there is room for more, as a new author/illustrator you have to enter the publishing world swinging!! Getting your stories and illustrations into the hands of readers is the goal, and in doing that you have to promote and build your skills. Getting your name out there, working on your writing/illustrations, and connecting with other writers/illustrators will only help you and enhance your craft.

World of Ink is a fantastic and fun vehicle to promote and to help writers and illustrators. It is under the Stories for Children Publishing umbrella and the founder VS Grenier. I am thrilled to be the Featured Guest Interviewer and a book reviewer for the online publication, Stories for Children Magazine. The World of Ink Network brings you blog tours, book trailers and shows on books, authors, illustrators, the publishing industry, marketing and much more. WOI aims to share resources that introduce tips, products and services to help strengthen, support, and challenge those who love writing and the written word. The hope is to bring not only authors, illustrators and publishing together, but also to help them reach their readership through an adventure in the World of Ink. http://worldofinknetwork.com/

  10. I agree! Being an illustrator or artist today is not only about craft, but being able to market your craft so that people see it, enjoy it, and hopefully talk about it. World of Ink puts in a marvelous effort to do for the creative publishing community.
